What I need to do and when?

There are two rounds in the competition:

1. Make a short video (less than 2 minutes) about your idea.

Send it to us before 25th of Feb 2019 and use this link.

We’ll select the 5 best ideas and invite them to the live competition (by 1st of March 2019).

3. Live pitch competition will be held at 16th of March, during the main event.

Rules of the competition

Who can participate:

  • Competition is open for everyone. You can be alone or with a team.
  • You or at least one team member must have a migrant background.
  • You don’t need to have company, but it’s possible. However, your company turnover for the last 12 months must be less than 10 000€ (this competition is for new and aspiring entrepreneurs).
Guidelines for making the video

Create a clear and interesting video about your idea. Please explain at least the following:

  1. One line description of your product or service (we are doing X for customers Y)
  2. What problems does your idea solve and why is this a problem? (We decrease the food waste in restaurants, because X kg of food is thrown away every day in restaurant X or restaurants in general.)
  3. Explain how can you do it. (We organize XYZ with the help of application that’s easy to use)
  4. Convince viewers that you CAN do it. (I have experience in restaurants and my team member is a programmer with X years of experience).

  6. Use the following link to submit your video to competition: http://bit.ly/2FRD0Rb
Guidelines for the live pitching competition on March 16th

These guidelines are for the final five participants who pitch their ideas in live event.

Length:
Live pitch can be max 4 minutes long.

Visual aids:
You can use visual aids like images, short video, sound and presentation. They are supposed to support your pitch, not be the main part of it. Powerful images can give listeners a message and clarify your idea, but remember that how you tell your story will convince the judges.

Content of the good pitch

Pitch is short presentation of your idea (or company) and a good story why the investors should be interested in it.

Pitch requires planning, ability to summarise the core content and skill to tell a good story to the reader, but also keep the focus on the main issues.

Small details can be asked later on – think the Pitch as your personal invitation for interested parties to get to know more about the idea and potential business.

Include the same things as in the video + tell

  1. How is idea making money?
  2. What kind of help are you looking for?
  3. How much money you need to start your business?
  4. Other interesting thing about your idea (eco-friendly, who benefits if you start the company, possible competition
  5. Is there room for international markets?

You don’t need to be a business expert to participate, but you need an idea you believe in.

Behind the event

The original idea of this event came from fashion entrepreneur Fadumo Ali, who runs Ikhlas webshop. She wanted to create an own event for modest fashion. Turo Numminen from Nuori Yrittäjyys ry was planning a pitching competition to empower immigrant entrepreneurs and Kaisu Keisala-Kaseja from Suomen Yrittäjät was thinking to organize an english speaking event for all entrepreneurs and future entrepreneurs in Helsinki, like she organized in 2018 under the name Business Unplugged. And so was Business Unplugged meets Creativity born!
